＜アーティストステートメント＞

国内外の現場で切り抜いた風景やモノ、人のスケッチを抽象化し、それぞれの内側に感じとった「気配（＝妖怪カオスと命名）」を、目には見えないが実在する電波や電流、微振動のように、ある情報と考え作品化しています。
カラフルな色彩と、ネットワーク状に点と線を組み合わせ、情報を徹底圧縮させたような作風が特徴で、気配から感じ取った振動を、作品を見てくださる人に伝えたいと思っています。
本展示に向けた、妖怪カオスver.7は、2014年より12度訪れたネパールで感じ取った、ヒマラヤの「水の気配」をテーマにした作品です。標高8000mをも越す山々から溶け出す水のダイナミズム、豊かな大自然の中で、後発開発途上国の抱える多くの問題に直面しながら生きる穏やかな人々との出会いを通じ、そこにあるヒマラヤの「水の気配」を、映像と平面のインスタレーション作品として発表します。

Ashina Watanabe has visited and lived in a number of places, both inside and outside Japan. She had the oppotunity to research and sketch a wide variety of places, objects and people. She has focused on the invisible, formless, or indeterminate presence that exists beyond consciousness which she calls `Yohkai Chaos`. This presence can be something tangible, for example, there is a variety of unseen and unheard things surrounding us such as electricity and microscopic vibrations, radio waves, low-level radiation and so on. She tried to visualize such Yohkai Chaos in her art. She has a traditional Japanese art educational background. Unlike traditional western art, she uses Japanese art techniques which include various flattened forms like Japanese graphic art, animation, pop culture and traditional Japanese paintings such as Hokusai paintings. Drawing minute lines using sewing yarn, what appears like compressions or overcrowded information networks can be seen in her art.
